Research and Maging FAQ

by: Aztexia

What's the formula for determining the number of research points needed to advance a research level?
(current research^2.5 + 10) / number of mage towers
That'll give you the number of turns needed to advance. The first part will give you the number of research points.
But the first part is shown on the research page even with no towers up, so just take that number and divide by the number of mage towers and you'll have the number of months it'll take to advance.

Does research add to your civilisation bonus?
The simple answer is yes. Research bonus is compounded onto your civilisation bonus.

Could somebody explain what maging is?
A Mage run is a term used for the most widely-used form of gaining large amounts of research.
When you have max turns, disband your army, demolish your forts, and some other things that you can go without for a while, replace them with mage towers, set them to research something, and spend most of your turns gaining research levels. Stop when you either run out of gold or run low on turns. Then demolish the mage towers, retrain your army, and that should be about all of your turns...
Some people like to add some tool makers before they build the mage towers so it doesn't take too long to demolish/rebuild

Is a mage run really effective?
A mage is really effective if done right. It enables you to gain a lot of research levels in a short space of time. The more research levels you have in total, the easier it will be to attack for land and recover from attacks. Of course, it will also depend on what type of research you have done on how easy it is going to be.

What are the mage research limits?
Military losses is maximum 50
Army Upkeep is maximum 50
Conquered Land is maximum 100
Catapults is maximum 100

How many mage towers do I need?
It is not a matter of how many you need but how many you can afford to run with. Additionally, the amount of mage towers will be limited to the amount of plains land that you have available to mage on.
