Pirate's Chinese Strategy notes:
- This 400rls Chinese strat is designed mainly for standard. If you are playing Chinese in tourney is better to research 50 food in the beginning instead of the 25 upkeep later on; if you see lots of rich targets though you might want to get your economy going by stealing and then when you start having troubles you can do the food research.
- While exploring try to keep about 85% plains with the rest of your land as mountains and forests so that you will get enough iron/wood to build mage towers. Use mainly farms with a few hunters (no more hunters after the exploring part). With some basic "starting kit" you will get about 600/700k land in protection.
- Keep exploring/maging until you get at least that 100 fort research. After that, demolish towers and train an all peasant army. Get land quickly so you will get ahead and you will be able to mage: the key to doing well in standard with Chinese is starting really well to get lots of research levels early on. It's well-known that after a Chinese gets 400rls they start getting unstoppable and it's true.
- Always keep an all peasant army unless you want to keep your land to mage. In that case ask somebody in your alliance for some bows and train a few archers, the 25rls on upkeep will help. Also you might want to ask some rich Byz or Mongol in your alliance for gold to finance your mage; since standard is an alliance-based game you've got to use this advantage.
- Use all forts but keep a few town centers to steal from the empires with no thieves.
- Oh and be prepared to go up and down the ranks like a yo-yo.
